What is a young carer?
We define a Young Carer as a young person who has caring responsibilities for a family member with a disability, health condition or substance misuse issue. Young carers may provide physical care, personal care, help with medication or practical tasks, or provide emotional support.
Young Carers often help look after someone in their family who has a disability, long-term illness, mental health difficulty, or problems with drugs or alcohol.
They may do things like cooking, cleaning, shopping, or helping with personal care such as lifting, washing or toileting. They may also give emotional support. Many Young Carers take on responsibilities that an adult would normally do.
Teagues Bridge Primary School acknowledges that young carers may need extra support to ensure they have equal access to education.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you would like any further guidance or support.
