Base 9
Welcome to Base 9’s webpage.
Mr Hale would like to welcome you to our class home page. Here you will be able to find out about what we have been learning and planned future activities. You will be able to view homework activities for the week along with the spelling and times tables focus.
In Base 9 we view learning as a journey and along the way it might be tricky, but we are learning to view problems as a challenge to be conquered rather than an obstacle in our path.
We hope you visit our webpage regularly for updates on how we are growing as learners and to see some of the fun learning opportunities that we have been taking part in.
Value of the Month
Our value of the Month for MARCH is courage. We will be looking for ways we can show courage and be courageous. In class, we will look at well know people that have shown courage and how we can learn from them.
Term Theme
Through our ‘Migration topic, we will be first looking at the stories of migration and focusing on the Windrush children who migrated from the Caribbean to the UK following the second world war. We will be writing reports around the historical facts of this time in history before writing our own fiction stories based in this setting
As part of our whole class reading we will read looking at the book ‘ The Windrush child’ by Benjamin Zephaniah
In maths, we will be ensuring our understanding of fractions , decimal and percentages are now secure and we can confidently calculate using all three. We will look closely at algebra and how this helps us generalise rules and patterns.
We will then move on to measurement and geometry. First looking at how angles are calculated in rectangles regular polygons and triangles before looking at the areas of measure: perimeter, area and Volume.
In science we will be investigating the plant and animal world and how different living things can be classified. We will be sorting animals into vertebrates and invertebrates. Then we will move onto the similarities and differences including micro-organisms, plants and animals.
In foundation we will be studying both the history and geography of migration , looking at how it effects the world we live in today.
